The Quaker Council for European Affairs (QCEA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew de Sousa as its new Director, effective 1 July. He will begin his role following a transition period in June.
Andrew succeeds Tracey Martin, who will step down at the end of June. We thank Tracey for her commitment and hard work over the past two and a half years.
Andrew brings over 25 years of experience in peacebuilding, human rights advocacy, and international solidarity. He has worked in Asia, North America and Europe on research, advocacy, and popular education. Most recently, Andrew led EU advocacy efforts for Human Rights Monitor and previously spent a decade with Peace Brigades International.
Andrew expressed his enthusiasm about joining QCEA with the following words:
“I am honoured to become a member of the QCEA team. With the immense challenges facing Europe and the world today, Quaker commitments to peace, justice and equality speak with renewed urgency. While the coming years will be difficult, the amazing work of QCEA, Friends, and allies across Europe gives me hope that we will continue to build a more peaceful and just future together.”
Martin Trouwens, Clerk of the QCEA Executive Committee, described the appointment as follows:
“We are delighted to welcome Andrew as our new Director. We chose him for his outstanding experience in peace-work and human rights, as well as his humility and openness to learning. We look forward to working with him as the Executive Committee.”
We’re pleased to welcome Andrew to his new role and are eager to begin working with him as QCEA continues its mission of promoting peace and human rights throughout Europe and beyond.
