Launch event: Storytelling from the Frontlines
Description
The Quaker Council for European Affairs is pleased to invite you to a virtual launch event to present its new publication ‘Storytelling From the Frontlines: Forefronting the voices of communities most affected by militarism and the climate crisis’.
Date: 10 March 2023
Time: 13:00-14:00 Brussels / 12:00 – 13:00 London Time – check your timezone conversion here.
In this online event, we will present QCEA’s new publication ‘Storytelling from the Frontlines: Forefronting the voices of communities most affected by climate and militarism’, bringing a selection of stories from communities in disparate locations of the world who are united by the connecting thread of militarism and the climate crisis. Through storytellers’ eyes we see how militarisation and securitised responses negatively impact the natural environment that communities depend on to survive and thrive, as well as how militarisation hinders local efforts to tackle climate and environmental issues at the community level.
Questions to be explored:
- Why is it important to centre the lived experience of communities most affected?
- What is the role/value of listening in politics? Can storytelling act as a vehicle/enabler/catalyst for listening?
- What do the stories in Storytelling From the Frontlines tell us about the connections between climate and militarism?
- What are some risks to avoid when using storytelling to inform policy/programming/our perceptions on an issue?
