EU Consultation on Energy and a European Strategy for Sustainable, Competitive and Secure Energy
In 2006, the European Commission undertook a public consultation to inform the development of a European Energy Policy. The European Commission published a Green Paper on Energy. This document set out the issues the European Union faces with regard to energy supply security and the technical, technological, environmental and external policy issues arising from this.
QCEA was disappointed by some of the content of the Green Paper and most importantly by the lack of reference to global solidarity, economic justice and to the potential for conflict arising from competition for energy resources. We responded to this consultation.
As a direct result of the work we undertook in developing this response, we have now embarked on a new work area on Energy Security, Conflict and Climate Change.
