Consultation response: competitiveness and the internal energy market

At the Quaker Council of European Affairs, we believe firmly that it is necessary to develop shared vision, goals and a sense of mutual responsibility at EU level as a context for a viable single market in energy. We need shared approaches to promoting energy conservation and renewables, so that cheap fossil- and subsidized nuclear-based suppliers don’t undercut more responsible suppliers. Suppliers of green energy should be able to compete on a level playing field. Priority should be given to energy sources that do not generate CO2 bearing in mind that there are or may be substantial CO2 emission’s associated with non-fossil fuel energy sources.
